Israel’s Prime Minister laid the cornerstone of a new building at the Edmond and Lily Safra Children’s Hospital, Tel Hashomer

In the presence of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and members of the government, the cornerstone of a new building dedicated to the early diagnosis and cure of life-threatening genetics diseases was laid on the Sheba campus.

The ceremony was held on Tu B’Shvat, the annual arbor day, and a tree was planted with messages hung on its branches and chosen by children and medical staff.

The hospital will be one of the most advanced of its kind.

  • Paraphrasing the prophet Isaiah, the Prime Minister declared: “From Safra will come forth tidings on national and international levels.” He added: “The possibility of giving children a medical and educational framework, without cutting them off from their daily routine, and while helping their families, is a great mitzvah I’m sure you will implement it in the best way that will make us all proud.
  • The father of a patient being treated for a rare disease says: “The fact that there is a drug that will improve her quality of life gives us hope for a new path“.
